MIESZKAŃCY AKWARIUM MALAWI

Pielęgnice z jeziora Malawi zwane są pyszczakami. Nazwa pochodzi od sposobu rozmnażania. Podczas tarła samica składa ikrę, która zostaje zapłodniona przez samca. Następnie ikra jest zbierana przez samicę i inkubowana w jamie gębowej przez 21 do 27 dni. Po tym czasie młode są wypuszczane. Rodzice opiekują się złożonymi jajami i narybkiem. Znane są gatunki ukrywające młode osobniki 
w jamie gębowej w razie zagrożenia. W okresie godowym, zwłaszcza samce, przybierają intensywniejsze ubarwienie oraz przejawiają silnie rozwinięty terytorializm. U większości samców nasila się wówczas agresja, zarówno między- jak i wewnątrzgatunkowa. Do czasu ustalenia hierarchii obserwuje się demonstrację siły między osobnikami broniącymi swojego rewiru.
