Our holdings
The unique profile of KPD holdings is closely linked to the research profile of the Faculty of Biology at the University of Gdańsk within which the collection is embedded. In fact, KPD has emerged from small individual laboratory collections of E. coli mutants, plasmids and laboratory host strains suitable for recombinant DNA research that have been preserved for more than 40 years by members of the scientific community working on molecular biology and microbial genetics.
At present our holdings include:
- laboratory strains and plasmid vectors used as tools in molecular biology and genetic engineering
- E. coli mutants used for research on regulation of cellular processes and stress response in prokaryotes
- natural bacterial strains carrying restriction-modification systems
- extremophilic microorganisms with potential application in molecular biology, biotechnology and bioengineering
- marine microorganisms
- newly isolated clinical or environmental strains or genetic constructs which are subject of ongoing research studies
- reference microorganisms for teaching purposes
- natural plasmids
- cloning/ overproduction vectors
KPD catalogue of publicly available strains, published online, can be downloaded below as MS Excel file containing records of the deposits (data minimum set).
You can search the catalogue (using filter option in excel data sheet) by:
- genus or/and species name
- source of the strain or its history
- strain properties
- strain growth conditions
